Black Bean Brownies

Just two ingredients for these fudgy, delicious brownies!
When I first came across this recipe many years ago,  I thought "ugh, that sounds disgusting!"
But, I figured, they are brownies. Chocolaty goodness in a pan. How bad could they be?

So, I took the leap and made them.

You can not..I repeat...can not taste the beans in these.

My entire family inhales them and has no clue that there is black beans packed into them. You honestly need to give these a try.  They are chocolaty, fudgy, and just plain delicious.

Just two ingredients and you are ready to go!

Ingredients (Serves: 12)
  • 15 oz can of black beans
  • 19 oz box of brownie mix
  • water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13 x 9 baking dish.
Drain and rinse beans well.
Put beans back into can and fill with water.
Puree beans/water in blender or food processor.
Mix bean puree with brownie mix until fully combined and smooth.
Spread batter into prepared pan.
Bake according to the directions on the brownie mix box.

  5. I just made these and they are really good. Have you tried using less water and adding an egg in to make them fluffy? I was also wondering if anyone has tried to boil down spinach in a little water and use the spinach juice in it too? I have a child with food sensory problems so I have a hard time getting him to eat any veggies.

    I haven't heard about the spinach, but it's a great idea! I will have to try that too.

  7. I made these again and put 1 egg in the can along with 1/3cup of spinach juice added beans and filled the rest of the can with water and puree the beans added the mix. They aren't fluffier but now my son, who can detect anything, is getting the nutrients of the spinach and beans! He LOVES them!!!
    To make the spinach juice:
    3 cups of fresh baby spinach in 1 cup water
    Bring to boil
    Then simmer for 10 min
    Strain and press out the juice. Makes 1 cup and it freezes well.
